The Attalla Elementary School Library welcomes students, teachers, families, and classes throughout the school day. The library follows a flexible schedule that includes regular class visits, open checkout times, and opportunities for small-group or whole-class activities.

Teachers are welcome to schedule time in the library for special projects, research, read-alouds, lessons, or other classroom needs. Parents and families are always welcome to visit and support a love of reading.

Library Mission and Goals

Attalla City Schools Library Media Center Mission Statement
The mission of the Attalla City Schools Library Media Centers is to support teaching, learning, reading, research, creativity, and digital responsibility for all students. Our library media centers provide welcoming spaces where students can explore books, build strong literacy skills, use technology wisely, and grow as independent learners. We work with teachers, families, and the community to help students become curious readers, thoughtful thinkers, and lifelong learners.

Library Media Center Goals

1. Build a Love of Reading
Encourage students to read for learning, enjoyment, and personal growth by providing access to a wide variety of books, genres, authors, and reading levels.

2. Support Classroom Instruction
Work with teachers to support lessons, projects, research, digital learning, and curriculum goals across all grade levels and subject areas.

3. Strengthen Research Skills
Teach students how to ask good questions, find reliable information, use resources correctly, and organize information in meaningful ways.

4. Promote Digital Citizenship
Help students use technology safely, responsibly, and respectfully, including online research, digital tools, copyright awareness, and appropriate communication.

5. Provide Equal Access to Resources
Make sure all students have access to books, technology, learning tools, and library services that meet their academic, language, and personal learning needs.

6. Support Independent Learning
Help students become confident learners who can choose books, locate information, solve problems, and use library resources on their own.

7. Encourage Creativity and Collaboration
Provide opportunities for students to create, share ideas, work with others, and use library resources for projects, presentations, and problem-solving.

8. Create a Welcoming Library Environment
Maintain a safe, organized, student-friendly space where all students, staff, and families feel welcome and supported.

9. Support College, Career, and Life Readiness
Prepare students to think critically, read widely, use information wisely, and build skills they will need beyond school.

10. Partner with Families and the Community
Encourage family involvement, reading at home, community partnerships, and events that support literacy and lifelong learning.
